Britney Spears’ Dad Loses Control Over Conservatorship

After the premiere of Framing Britney SpearsThe singer had her first trial on February 11th to challenge her father, Jamie Spears, for control of her conservatory. Although Jamie will continue to have power over Britney’s finances and personal decisions, Judge Brenda Penny decided that he will have joint oversight with the financial services company Bessemer Trust.

Spears’ father has had sole control of his daughter’s estate since he became her curator in 2008. Since then, no objections are known from Britney until the rise of the #FreeBritney movement. Thereafter, in August 2020, Britney filed an application to remove her father as a conservator. Los Angeles judge Penny delegated Bessemer Trust as co-curator in November 2020 and denied Britney’s request to remove her father as curator. After that, Britney’s attorney Samuel Ingham accepted the joint preservation proposal, and Penny eventually agreed to grant Jamie Spears and Bessemer Trust roles as co-curators.

In a small win for the #FreeBritney movement, Spears’ attorney issued a statement diversity that Jamie Spears and Bessemer Trust “will have an equal share of responsibility in the hope that they will sit down together and work together to determine how best to manage this complex property for the benefit of my client”. He continued, “It’s no secret that my client doesn’t want her father to be a co-curator, but we do recognize that removal is a separate issue.”
