Fire Captain Andrea Hall made history on January 20 as she led the pledge of allegiance to President Joe Biden and the inauguration of Vice President Kamala Harris. In addition to an oral recitation, Andrea led the promise in American sign language and emphasized the inclusive theme of “America United” of the event. To the best of the Inaugural Committee’s knowledge, this was the first time the promise was made on the day of inauguration in ASL.

According to The 19th.Andrea was the first black woman to be hired at the start of her career in 1993 at a station in the Albany City Fire Department. She continued to be the first black woman to become the first black woman to become the Fulton County Fire Rescue’s first black woman over 16 years ago.

Andrea prepared meticulously for the initiation, making notes in her 80-page notebook every time she practiced the promise. She wanted to live up to his message. “Everything [the pledge] expresses that I want to embody that right now, “she said CNN. “And just make sure I represent my family, my professional family here in South Fulton, represent the nation, and make sure they understand the passion I use to speak these words about being indivisible as a nation … because that is what It will take our country some time to move forward. “Relive the powerful moment below.
