The Nami Nori Restaurant in NYC turns hand rolls into tacos
It doesn’t often happen that Pinch Food Design is equally impressed by food and design innovations with the same intensity. But Nami Nori, a new Japanese restaurant in NYC’s West Village, officially blew us away. In addition to the three founders who are all alums from Masa, the only 3 Michelin star sushi restaurant in the country, Nami Nori has mesmerized our creative senses with her breathtaking show of Temaki set in taco style on perfectly cut wooden blocks in Relaxed Cali-Scandi-Japanese decor is served.

While strolling the aisles of New York’s Shoppe Object Show at Pier 36, Pinch Food Design came across an amazing designer, Yuki Matsuo. Her passion project, All-You-Can-Eat-Press, is an independent publisher based in Brooklyn that celebrates everyday food for everyday people. Coupled with a mutual love of local cuisine and the unique tastes of the surrounding local culture, the founders follow their hearts (and stomachs) to find new favorite dishes, restaurants, and specialty stores, and then serve them in lightly wrapped, easy-to-digest portions for foodies everywhere .
Make the best of what you have …
At a time when many of us are being forced to slow down … feed … and keep it local, Pinch Food Design decided to talk about the latest book from double-James Beard Award-winning chef Blaine Wetzel, Lummi – Island Cooking, to write.
Pinch Food Design came across these photos of cheese in front of marble backgrounds by the art collective Ptohograhpies, which won the Berlin Art Prize in 2014 for precisely these pictures. At first they made her laugh … a visual representation of the cheese on display in a curated setting was very much how they felt about all of those ZOOM meetings. But they had a little more to offer … so Pinch Food Design could NOT write about them.

United Sodas of America’s colorful, matte cans make the brain tingle with excitement, like first stumbling across the infamous Tumblr stuff neatly organized. The soda brand was launched with 12 flavors made from high quality ingredients and free from the unhealthy chemicals commonly found in soda.
Farm-to-Tableware: Grass-Fed Bone China by Gregg Moore
As people who design products that focus on food, Pinch Food Design naturally gravitates towards materials found in kitchens: marble, wood, cork, stainless steel … but when they learned about Gregg Moore’s technique of turning cow parts who are normally considered waste – BONES – in china … their brains went straight to the compost bin – what other opportunities are we all missing out on ?!
Squeeze fresh juice with these ring and knuckle juicers
These “rings” design objects are not just the idea that form follows function. They’re also a fun way to convince people to improve their bartending skills by using fresh juice in their cocktails! The Ring Juicer and the Knuckle Juicer have a conventional reamer head, paired with double finger holes for the Ring Juicer and an ergonomic, knuckle-shaped handle for the Knuckle Juicer, which takes classic kitchen and bar tools in an extremely unconventional way.
Introduction of Parcel by Pinch Food Design: Catering reinvented
We could all use a memorable, fun, and delicious getaway … luckily, this is Pinch Food Design’s specialty. Pinch launched Parcel, an upscale home dining experience designed to connect people even when they’re apart. With the COVID-19 pandemic raging on, it couldn’t have come at a better time.
Corona Food Masks Portrait Series by hej studio
Hej Studio, a multidisciplinary food branding and design studio based in Bregenz, Austria and Copenhagen, Denmark, challenged itself to create face masks that are more natural and comfortable than those we associate with hospitals and sterile environments. After playing with cabbage, radicchio, and other compliant vegetables, they created this eye-catching series of portraits, Corona Food Masks.
Peace of mind and a piece of cake!
With the pandemic looming, Pinch had to ponder the different ways our celebrations need to change … and the birthday cake was definitely high on the list. And then they came across this brilliant design, Top It Cake Shield, a doctor-invented cake shield that protects partygoers of all ages from spreading germs over cakes when blowing out candles.
Gift Unique and unexpected chocolates from BRIK in London
The London-based chocolate company BRIK is breaking new ground with its approach to chocolate. Under the direction of Danish designer Kia Utzon-Frank (great niece of the Sydney Opera House architect Jørn Utzon) and retail strategist Raffaella Baruzzo, BRIK uses textures, materials and architectural surfaces as inspiration for their creations and as a vehicle for amazing flavor combinations.
