Master-planned communities: How outdoor spaces enhance livability

Nic Jensen, vice president of sales at Onni Group, notes that amenities aren’t just limited to green spaces, but also include businesses and services that benefit the people who live in development and the broader community.

Outdoor facilities affect potential buyers, confirms Jensen.

He notes that Cambie Gardens, Onnis master-planned parish on 25 acres of land between Cambie and Heather Streets from West 57th to West 59th Avenues, is an example of the outdoor space complementing the residential towers and townhouses on the site becomes.

While the first phase is slated to be completed in late 2021, the development will ultimately include more than 2,000 new homes as well as significant outdoor facilities such as a two and a half acre park, central plaza and even an acre urban farm along with retail space for a grocery store and other businesses and services .

Hardscaping – paths and squares – form a basis for the outdoor areas, while soft scaping – the living elements such as trees, shrubs, grasses and flowers – are intended to improve the overall picture.

The planting design for Cambie Gardens begins along the bypass roads, where trees such as Red Maples, Hornbeams, and Katsura have been carefully selected to match Cambie Gardens’ larger road network.
