Trump's CFO Can't Save Himself By Pretending To Be Stupid

Trump's CFO Can't Save Himself By Pretending To Be Stupid

Trump – Highest Rated?

Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg has not yet revealed his legal strategy, but if the past is any indication, he may try to simply plead ignorance. That’s what happened in the scandal surrounding the Trump Foundation charitable scam when Weisselberg simply said he signed off on things without reading or knowing what they were, and it seemed to work. That won’t work this time, and Farron Cousins explains why.

Trump organization, CFO Allen Weisselberg has not yet made public what his defense is going to be. You know, the defense for all the counts of evading taxes that he’s been hit with. So we don’t know what his lawyers are going to go to court and argue. We do know of course that his lawyers have gone to court and said, this whole thing is a farce. It’s a sham, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Yeah. That’s not an actual legal defense. That’s just them trying to craft a narrative with the media. But in terms of legal defense, we don’t know. But what we do know based on history is that Weisselberg whenever there’s trouble at the Trump organization has always tried to essentially plead stupidity as vanity fair recently pointed out back in the day. And just a couple of years ago, when there was that big Trump foundation charity scam, right, where they were actually sending charity money down to a politician down here in the state of Florida.

Weisselberg is the guy that signed off on that. And then during the investigation, when they asked why Solberg, who controls every single penny coming in and out of the Trump organization. So why why’d you sign off on this? This is clearly not allowed under law. And Weisselberg said, yeah, I didn’t actually read what I signed. Oops, you silly meek. I, you know, you, you can’t throw a guy in jail for just being careless. You can, but they didn’t. So why, so Berg actually got away with just pleading ignorance on that particular issue, which resulted in the Trump foundation being dissolved, the Trump family, being barred from sitting on any charitable organizations in New York for a lengthy period of time, it was a big fricking deal. And Weisselberg got out of it by just saying, oh, I didn’t know what I was doing, but that won’t save him here again. We don’t know if he’s going to try to act like he’s just, you know, some idiot running a multi-billion dollar corporations, money or not, but we do know he’s done it in the past, but the reason that won’t work now, even if he attempted to do it is because what we already know from the Manhattan DA’s office is that why Solberg kept spreadsheets. He kept spreadsheets of all of the incentives that he was getting and not paying taxes on.

It’s all in writing, you know, digital and manual writing. So it’ll be interesting to see if he tries to say, well, I didn’t know what I was put in the spreadsheet. Sometimes I just make spreadsheets. It’s fun. I enjoy it. Do you want me to make you one? So we don’t know, but I do love this story because it gives us a glimpse into how this organization has been operating. Anytime there’s trouble. Everybody always throws her hands up and being like, I don’t know what’s happening. I’m not smart enough to figure this stuff out. I don’t read things. No. The organization itself has said that. Why? So Berg has said that that’s not going to save you this time. The charitable fraud was bad enough. This is far more serious than that. These are actual criminal charges and Weisselberg better think twice before he comes up with a definitive legal strategy, especially given the fact that reports show that even though he wasn’t charged with anything yet, there is some evidence to suggest that Weisselberg son may have also received benefits from the Trump organization that were not taxed.

Weisselberg is facing 15 years in prison. He is 74 years old. Add those two things together. And it’s likely that if he’s convicted and sentenced to that full 15 years, Weisselberg will walk into that prison and never walk out again. I don’t know what his health is, but we do know that health and prison typically isn’t top notch. So it’s unlikely that he’s going to leave jail. If he ever goes in there, his best bet is to cooperate to the fullest extent. Trump’s not going to have your back. The Trump kids are not going to have your back. If they get the opportunity, they’re going to throw you under the bus. And they’re going to try to pin every bit of this on you saying it was your idea. So if you can prove otherwise, I suggest you do it because spending the last decade and a half of your life in prison, doesn’t seem like a very nice way to end your time on earth.
